My Love Hate Relationship With Technology

May 17th, 2010 No comments

My relationship with technology has been bittersweet over the years. I have had many new technological devices and I thoroughly appreciate the value of technology and the conveniences that technology provides me. However, I feel like every time I get a new technological device (e.g. computer, camera, router, etc.) I find myself having to either call my dad to help me set it up or I have to call technical support because the technological device will not work! I have to laugh at this point because it is such a consistency with my experience with this. All I have to say is that I am glad my dad and technical support are available because without them I would not have successfully been able to be the owner of these technological devices. I am happy to report, however, that my newest technological purchase (a wireless router) was very cooperative with me. I set it up all by myself with great success!!

May 17th, 2010 No comments

I would like to boast about the Iphone 3g! This phone has made my life more convenient, entertaining and useful! I no longer have to mapquest anything. The gps on this phone is amazing and really fast with the 3g network behind it. It has never froze on me or sent me in the wrong direction and I am so very grateful for that! I am not the best with directions and for someone like me, this phone comes in handy. There are tons of applications for any type of interest. When im bored at home, I have a bunch of games I can play, music to listen to, and videos or pictures to look at. It has also made communication much easier with friends and family. The layout of the phone is easy to understand and doesn’t take much time to get used to. I would say the main thing I love about this phone is the GPS system! It has saved me time and money!

Apple Appeals to Current and Next Generations

May 15th, 2010 No comments

Today’s fast paced society has mostly technology to thank. Generation Y, born in the early 1990s, have become the experts in all things gadgets and computers. The most iconic device come to pass in recent times would have to be the Apple ‘i’ series such as the iPod and iPhone. The iPod, a small handheld device which allows a user to watch videos or listen to media, may seem trivial but has sold millions across the globe. The simple design and trendy white headphones has made the iPod a completely different and unique design from other portable media devices. The iPhone, similar to the iPod, not only allows the user to watch/listen to media, but it also acts as a mobile phone and mini wireless internet device. The iPhone is marketed for all ages as it can be used as a mini-office or social-networking device. As the older generation X and baby boomers struggle to come to grips with the constant stream of technology being released each year, generation Y grasp all these gadgets with both hands and seem to thirst for something more.

More About the Apple Ipad

May 12th, 2010 No comments

The iPad is the newest technological gadget from Apple. Many critics think that the iPad will the change the face of how we will communicate. The iPad can allow people to read books by touching the screen and turning the page. The iPad works just like the iPod Touch or iPhone in which most commands are done by touching on the screen. The iPad does not have a built in camera on it, which some critics think is a good thing because the iPad is quite big. Also, the iPad isn’t a phone either, but it also seems that people don’t mind that either as well. Other people think the iPad is totally unnecessary as far as technology is concerned. Even though the iPad is pretty cheap compared to other devices, the iPad was still as an extravagant device in a downed economy. Despite the economy, the iPad should still be a big seller among fans of Apple and gadget geeks in general.

Apple Ipad is an Interesting Innovation

May 10th, 2010 No comments

The ipad is an interesting new innovation from Apple, but is the the “third device” Steve Jobs thinks it is? Don’t get me wrong, technically I think it’s amazing, although watching Steve present it at the Apple Keynote speech it did remind me a little of my 5ft 2 wife holding a massive iPhone but I digress. The problem I have with the iPad is it’s niche, it’s not a notepad, or sub-mini notebook, and I can’t make calls on it. So what is it really going to be useful for – ebooks – surely for that I’d use a kindle? I think it’s a bit of a gadget and a fad – gaming could be interesting provided the game makes proper use of the accelerometers, using it to steer a spaceship in a game would be cool, but beyond that I’m buying one because I’m a complete Apple fanboi!

Google Chrome Has a Unique Design and Architecture

May 9th, 2010 No comments

Google Chrome is an open-source web browser developed by Google. Released in 2008, Google Chrome has become very popular and competes with other browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Windows Internet Explorer. Google Chrome sports several features that are helpful to users browsing the web. The first is an uncluttered interface which, combined with tabbed browsing and a bookmarks bar, helps keep the user focused on the content and not on navigation. There is also an extension system, similar to Mozilla Firefox’s Add-ons, which allows for the customization of the browser to suit the user’s needs. Google Chrome also integrates with Google which allows the user of features such as bookmark sync and protection against phishing and malicious websites. Google Chrome is also unique in its architecture. Instead of having a single application, Google Chrome creates separate processes for each tab and plug-in. This ensures that the performance of one website does not affect the others. Other features include spell-checking and an incognito browsing session.

Computer to Buy for Your Kids

May 8th, 2010 No comments

For the parents about to send their kid off to college for the first time, one of the most stressful things you will run into is which computer to buy. Dont be fooled there is no way that the kids old laptop or desktop will suffice. Your kid and the school itself will quickly tell you that your old computer is obsolete and in the words of the student “lame”. Todays computers are amazing and can do wonderful things. This helps your situation none the least. With the high cost of a college education today you are probably interested in getting the least expensive unit that will do the job, “lame” or not. If you wish to take the easy way out head to the local computer store and look into the E-machines. E-machines start at around 300.00 and even that basic model is loaded with features. One of the best features of E-machine computers is that if you accidently bought a subpar aka “lame” model, you can upgrade very easily. Upgrades take place on your kitchen table or in a dorm room and are very reasonable in price.
